Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Why do some models show only a dotted pattern instead of a preview image? The model has neither an uploaded image of its own, nor a thumbnail embedded in the file, nor has a 3D snapshot been generated for it yet. The app renders missing snapshots in the background one after another, so with many new files this can take a few minutes. To see it right away, open the model once, or upload your own image via “Upload image” on the detail page.

I accidentally deleted a file — is it gone? No, as long as fewer than 7 days have passed: it sits in the trash and can be restored from there.

How do I get my existing folder structure into the catalog? Choose “Adopt an existing folder structure” during initial setup (see Getting started), or later via “Catalog Location” in Settings.

Can I use the same catalog on multiple computers? Not automatically/synced — there’s currently no cloud connection for that (see Known limitations). But “Catalog Backup” (export/import) lets you transfer the catalog to another computer manually.

Can I go back to the old version after an update? New versions may change the database format. To go back, you then need a matching backup from before that change. In-app updates back up the catalog before installation. From 0.16.0, the app also attempts a copy before a required schema migration, even after a manual installation. However, a failed copy does not stop that migration. Export your own backup under “Settings” → “Catalog” before a manual switch. Restore after an update. Can I start the app twice? No. A second launch brings the existing window to the front.

Which typeface does the interface use? The interface uses Barlow. Paths, addresses and keys use IBM Plex Mono. Icons come from an SVG icon set.

Docker and home-network access

Is there a Docker version? From 0.16.0, a functional but possibly still unstable Docker version provides a browser desktop and a catalog companion page. Install Docker.

How do I access it from a phone or tablet? With the Docker container running and LAN access configured, open the server address with /katalog/ and sign in. You access the same catalog on the server; this does not synchronize local catalogs. Slicer links require a suitable slicer installed on the accessing device. Browser usage.
