Going back to the previous version

If a newer version has rebuilt your catalog (for example 0.17 with schema 52), an older version (for example 0.16) cannot open it. On startup, the app shows:

This catalog was created by a newer version of the app, so this version cannot open it.

It then closes. Your data is not changed in the process.

Before every switch to a preview version or a new major version: Settings → Catalog → Export catalog.

The app also automatically makes a copy in the update-backups subfolder of the data folder before every rebuild. The name contains vor-Schema-Migration. Details: Restoring a backup after an update.

  • Windows: %APPDATA%\com.thebexxs.mfkatalogmanager (Windows key + R, type it in, Enter)
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/com.thebexxs.mfkatalogmanager
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/com.thebexxs.mfkatalogmanager

The preview version uses a folder with the additional ending .preview, for example com.thebexxs.mfkatalogmanager.preview. It has its own catalog.

Close the app completely first.

  1. Open the data folder.
  2. Rename catalog.db to catalog-neuere-version.db. Do not delete it. If catalog.db-wal or catalog.db-shm sit next to it, rename or move them too.
  3. Open the update-backups subfolder. Copy the newest file with vor-Schema-Migration in its name to the folder above and rename the copy to catalog.db.
  4. Start the older version.

Install the older version beforehand, for example from the Releases page.

Improving the dialog for this case is planned, but without a date (roadmap).
